Rohit Loomba, MD, MHSc

Dr. Rohit Loomba is a tenured Professor of Medicine in Gastroenterology and an Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at UC San Diego. He is a leading expert in translational research and clinical trial design for NAFLD and NASH. As founding director of the UCSD NAFLD Translational Research Unit, he has driven innovations such as using MRI-PDFF and MRE as non-invasive biomarkers in early NASH trials. He leads one of the largest NAFLD patient cohorts and founded the San Diego Integrated NAFLD Research Consortium. His work, funded by agencies like the NIH, spans patient-focused clinical research, trials, and population studies, and he holds key roles with the American Liver Foundation and AASLD while contributing to several high-impact journals.
